Library Advisory Board <br />December 19, 2001 <br />MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING OF THE LIBRARY <br />ADVISORY BOARD <br />December 19, 2001 <br />The Paris Public Library Advisory Board met in regular session <br />Wednesday, December 19, 2001, at 4:00 PM in the Library with Vice <br />Chairman John Howison presiding. The following members were present: <br />Sarah Gambili, Anna Davis, Vicki Terlap, Walter Williams, Fran Neeley <br />and John Howison. Also attending were Callie Thompson, Friends <br />President and Betty Landon, Library Director. Not attending were Nancee <br />Salzman, Peggy Guthrie, and Keith Williamson. <br />The October 17, 2001 minutes were approved. <br />The budget looks good. The only surprise was the payment of <br />unemployment benefits to Cynthia, which caused a negative rigure in the <br />budget. <br />The November Statistical Report showed an increase in circulation, <br />reference, electronic reference and interlibrary loan. Program attendance <br />was down because of fewer programs presented. Library visits were up. <br />Children's Services showed that 10 programs were held with 129 children <br />attending and 69 adults. There were 19 Preschool programs presented with <br />250 children attending and 57 adults. <br />In the Adult Outreach program, three nursing home programs were <br />presented. <br />Several items under new business were discussed, with Vicki Terlap <br />addressing these: (1) There is a need for programs for Kindergarten <br />children after school. They cannot meet during the daytime programs <br />because of kindergarten attendance and are too young for the school age <br />activities. Betty Landon will look into this and bring recommendations to <br />the board. (2) Vicki brought a suggestion from her Book Club that it <br />would be nice to bring authors to the Paris area. It was suggested that an <br />author group be started with Vicki to lead the group at the library in the <br />Gallery area. Book Club brochures were aiso suggested for the Library to <br />
