Library Advisory Board <br />December 19, 2001 <br />Page 2 <br />have available to make people aware of the book clubs in existence in the <br />Paris area. Betty mentioned that there were some Humanities grants <br />available to bring authors to libraries. (3) Vicki also suggested that the <br />Library have Staff Picks, where the staff would choose books which they <br />have enjoyed and display for the patrons. <br />There was no unfinished business. <br />Callie Thompson, Friends President, stated that they had purchased 20 die <br />cuts for the Children's Department and a case to store them. The Friends <br />Luncheon raised $1,900. For the spring luncheon, they are trying to book <br />an author or book reviewer. <br />Betty Landon, Library Director, stated that she and John Howison <br />attended a NETLS meeting in Garland on December 5. Betty won a 17" <br />computer monitor as a door prize. It is now in use at a public internet <br />station. She also stated that the State Direct Aid for the Paris Library <br />would be $6254.00 She hopes to put that money with the remaining bond <br />money and purchase automatic doors for the entrance. They are putting <br />all the large print books together. The book weeding process has begun to <br />make more room on the shelves. There was water leakage in the magazine <br />and children's area from last weekend rains. Eleven volunteers who help <br />nearly every day were each given a gift certificate for Chili's. Betty stated <br />that on January 15`, a database will be available to practice for <br />standardized tests such as GED, Real Estate, ACT, SAT, Fireman's <br />examination, etc. This can be done at the library on the internet or at <br />home with the patron's library card number. <br />The meeting adjourned at 5:15 p.m. The next meeting will be held on <br />January 16, 2002 at 4:00 p.m. in the Gallery. <br />Anna Davis Date Approved <br />
