Cities in the county might
combine with the county in requesting proposals and paying for services.
County Judge Derrell Hall met with Bonham City Manager Bill Funderburk, Bonham
Fire Chief Mike Baker and the city managers of Honey Grove and Leonard last week.
They talked about how to put together an RFP for ambulance service and whether or
not they would like to do it individually or do a single RFP (request for proposal) that
would cover the county and all cities.
"It's obvious there will probably be a single provider countywide," Hall said. "My
feeling is that the best thing to do would be to go together, under an interlocal
agreement, to issue a single RFP for emergency medical services that would cover all
the cities and the county."
Hall put together a 20-page RFP that contemplates that all of the entities, with the
exception of Bells-Savoy and possibly Trenton, would rather go ahead under a single
RFP.
He has set up a meeting for Friday afternoon with all the mayors and ciry managers.
They will talk and make sure this is what everyone wants to do.
Hall's RFP includes a schedule. "I think it goes without saying that time is pretty
critical and the sooner we get an RPF published, the better off we're going to be," he
said.
It's going to take 60-90 days to get a new company in place and get their vehicles and
1
