PEDC Meeting
July 31, 2002
Page 4
page of editorial, in Black's Guide. Mr. Vest said it was a well respected guide
in the Dallas area. The cost will be approximately $2,000.00 per issue.
Mr. Vest reported that later in this month, they will be working a trade show,
Real Estate Texas in the Dallas area, with Oncor. He said there will be a
reception and afterwards they will have a display. Mr. Vest said he and Eric will
be working in Oncor's booth, and will meet some of the real estate people from
the Dallas area.
Mr. Vest also mentioned the Realtor's issues with the PEDC's brochures that
came up last month. They had a meeting on June 27, 2002, with Jim Bell, Renee
Harvey, Donald Lewis, Vic Ressler, and Bill Cupit. They discussed what the
PEDC was doing and how they were doing it. Mr. Vest advised that the end
result was that the Realtors felt the PEDC should continue as they were presently
doing, that it was up to the PEDC whether they list a realtor or not.
Mr. Vest advised the Board that they did get the completed labor survey back.
The wage and benefit survey is not complete and he is waiting on Turner Piping
information for the survey. Mr. Vest said they had given Turner another set of
forms to complete.
City Attorney Schenk told the Board that at the 4-A training he attended, one of
the issues that was raised was the question of the ex-officio members. Mr. Vest
advised that the Attorney General's opinion of the law is that the law does not say
you can have ex-officio members, so the Attorney General thinks you cannot
have ex-officio members. Mr. Vest advised that it does not say you cannot have
ex-officio members and he felt that the majority of the cities do have ex-officio
members. Mr. Schenk stated that he planned to have additional discussion with
staff in the Attorney General's office.
Director Fendley wanted to know if there was a contract on the K-Mart Building.
Mr. Vest advised that there is a contract, but it is with some real estate investors
out of Dallas. Mr. Vest thought they might be able to help find a user for that
building.
