Discuss and act on ORDINANCE NO. 2013 -039: AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY <br />COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PARIS, TEXAS; AMENDING SECTION 3- 3(B)(2) OF <br />CHAPTER 3 ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES OF THE CODE OF ORDINANCE OF THE <br />CITY OF PARIS TO EXTEND THE ZONE PROHIBITING THE SALE OF <br />ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES WITHIN 1000 FEET OF ANY PUBLIC OR PRIVATE <br />SCHOOL; MAKING OTHER FINDINGS AND PROVISIONS RELATED TO THE <br />SUBJECT; PROVIDING A REPEALER CLAUSE, A SEVERABILITY CLAUSE, A <br />SAVINGS CLAUSE, A PENALTY CLAUSE; AND PROVIDING FOR AN <br />EFFECTIVE DATE. <br />City Attorney Kent McIlyar explained that under Section 109.33 of the Texas Alcohol <br />Beverage Code, the Board of Trustees of a private or public school district could request the City <br />to extend the alcohol free zone to 1000 feet. Mr. McIlyar said the Board of Trustees of the Paris <br />Independent School District passed a resolution on September 16, 2013, requesting the City of <br />Paris to amend its ordinance to create a 1000 foot buffer around all PISD school buildings. <br />
