Existing Parks - Needs
The first and foremost need in Paris is to continue to renovate and upgrade the existing parks in
the system. It is desirable to increase the level of maintenance at all of the existing parks in order
to create first class facilities. Various areas in Paris have different characteristics and needs and
therefore, each park should reflect those specific characteristics and needs.
A total of eighty -four percent (84 %) of the survey respondents expressed the need for upgraded
and renovated parks and facilities in the City of Paris. The city needs to upgrade and improve the
most used and most accessible parks in Paris to continue satisfying local needs. Basic park
amenities such as: walking trails, playgrounds, benches, shaded areas, picnicking shelters /pavilions
and enhanced landscaping are all examples ofupgrades to the existing park system that are needed.
Lake Crook was discussed at the public input meeting and during conversations with the Citizens
Advisory Committee. It is apparent that Lake Crook is in need of re- development to encourage
more residents and non - residents to participate in outdoor activities in order to be more active.
Lake Crook is a gorgeous asset to the City of Paris and needs be upgraded and developed in order
to draw more people into the area. Lake Crook, if developed correctly, could be developed as a
potential revenue maker for the city. Currently, city staff and officials are working on a zoning
district that will enhance recreational, mixed -use and appropriate development projects in
conjunction with environmental protection consistent with this park plan and the city's goals and
obj ectives.
Climber at Leon Williams Park
In addition, each park playground needs to be reviewed for compliance with the current safety
guidelines established by the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC). Also, all existing
park and recreation facilities need to be evaluated in terms of accessibility and upgraded (if
needed) to meet the accessibility standards under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
Elb City of Paris Parks, Recreation & Open Space Master Plan 2013 -2023
Page 23
