Athletic Facilities - Needs
Since athletic organizations have different recreational needs than the general public, a carrying
capacity analysis was used to determine the true needs of the different sport associations. The
carrying capacity is the number of games one athletic field can accommodate each week.
Obtaining information from each organization provides the opportunity to better understand the
different organization's needs in order to provide recreational opportunities for the growing
population.
Football - Currently, youth football is played at the Boys and Girls Club located in Paris. The age
groups are broken down into two different levels: 3' and 4th graders play in one division and 5'
and 6' graders play in another. A total of four games are played each Saturday at the Boys and
Girls Club. Ideally, a youth football field can support 12 teams per week. (6 games per Saturday)
The following table represents the current and future needs of the youth football program based
on the number of teams per field.
*The estimated number of teams in 2023 is based on double the City of Paris's 1.3% population growth per
year - a total of 2.6% increase per year.
Youth football is currently being served by the Boys and Girls Club and enough fields are provided
for the estimated growth in the next ten years. Other than game fields, open lawn areas and lighted
areas are needed for practices throughout the week.
Soccer - Youth soccer currently plays their games on property owned by Paris Junior College just
adjacent to Dragon Park. The complex has a total of 5 soccer fields and they are broken down into
different sizes as follows:
- 2 - 110' x 220' fields - 2 - 120'x 240' field - 1 - 150'x 280' field
PRUS
rrxns —
City of Paris Parks, Recreation & Open Space Master Plan 2013 -2023
Page 24
Number of
Number of
Number of
Number of
Number of
Existing
Required
Required
Field Sizes
Teams
Teams
Game Fields
Game Fields
Game Fields
0
2013
2013
2023
80 Yards
1
9
1
12
1
Total
1
9
1
12
1
*The estimated number of teams in 2023 is based on double the City of Paris's 1.3% population growth per
year - a total of 2.6% increase per year.
Youth football is currently being served by the Boys and Girls Club and enough fields are provided
for the estimated growth in the next ten years.
