Soccer games are typically played on Saturdays and each team typically plays one game per week.
Ideally the carrying capacity of a soccer field is 12 teams per week (six games per Saturday). The
larger soccer fields can be broken down into multiple fields for the younger players since they do
not need as much space as the older youth.
The following table represents the current and future needs of youth soccer based on providing one
game field for each 12 teams in an age group.
'The estimated number of teams in 2023 is based on double the City of Paris's 1.3% population growth per
year - a total of 2.6% increase per year.
There is currently no need for additional soccer fields for 2013 or within the next ten years. In
addition to the five fields available for youth soccer to use on Paris Junior College's campus the
City of Paris owns an additional five soccer fields at Dragon Park, just across the street. No
additional soccer fields are needed during this planning period but practice facilities are always
needed.
Baseball - The youth baseball league in Paris is currently being run by the Paris Optimist Club.
The Paris Optimist Club is affiliated with Dixie Youth Baseball and owns and maintains the
existing fields - The Woodall - Charles Taylor Complex. The youth baseball league in Paris has
slowly grown over the past few years and is projected to continue to grow over the next ten years.
Different age groups play on different sized fields and seven fields are available in Paris:
• 1 - 300' field (U13 - U14)
• 2 - 200' fields (U9 - U12)
• 1 - 180' field (U9 - U10)
• 2 - 160' fields (U5 - U8)
• 1 - 135' field (U3 - U4 & Buddy Ball (Baseball for children with disabilities))
ME
Rl _-
City of Paris Parks, Recreation & Open Space Master Plan 2013 -2023
Page 25
Number of
Number of
Number of
Number of
Number of
Existing
Required
Required
Age Groups
Teams
Teams
Game Fields
2013
Game Fields
2023
Game Fields
2013
2013
2023
6U - U8
2
20
2
24
2
IOU -U12
2
20
2
24
2
14U
1
10
1
12
1
Total
5
50
5
60
5
'The estimated number of teams in 2023 is based on double the City of Paris's 1.3% population growth per
year - a total of 2.6% increase per year.
There is currently no need for additional soccer fields for 2013 or within the next ten years.
