ERI Consulting, Inc. <br /> <br /> 1.1.51 Designated Person - The individual designated under Asbestos Hazar~ <br /> Emergency Response Act (A~ERA) to oversee all asbestos activities to <br /> include compliance with all laws, regulations, and rules. <br /> <br /> 1.1.52 Director - The Director, National institute for Occupational Safety <br /> and Health, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, or <br /> designee. <br /> <br /> 1.1.53 Disturbance - Activities that disrupt the matrix of ACM or PACM, <br /> crumble or pulverize ACM or PACM or generate visible debris from ACM <br /> or PACM. <br /> <br /> 1.1.54 Employee Exposure - Exposure to airborne asbestos that would occur <br /> if the employee were not using respiratory protective equipment. <br /> <br /> 1.1.55 Encapsulant - A liquid material which can be applied to asbestos- <br /> containing material which controls the possible release of asbestos <br /> fibers from the material either by creating a membrane over the <br /> surface (bridging encapsulant) or by penetrating into the material <br /> and binding its components together (penetrating encapsulant). <br /> <br /> 1.1.56 Encapsulation The application of an encapsulant to asbestos- <br /> containing materials to control the release of asbestos fibers into <br /> the air. <br /> <br /> 1.1.57 Enclosure - The construction of an air-tight, impermeable, permanent <br /> barrier around asbestos-containing material to control the release <br /> of asbestos fibers into the air. <br /> <br /> 1.1.58 EPA - U. S. Environmental Protection Agency. <br /> <br /> 1.1.59 Equipment decontamination enclosure system - That portion of a <br /> decontamination enclosure system designed for controlled transfer of <br /> materials and equipment into or out of the work area, typically <br /> consisting of a washroom and holding area. <br /> <br /> 1.1.60 Equipment room - A contaminated area or room which is part of the <br /> worker decontamination enclosure system with provisions for storage <br /> of contaminated clothing and equipment. <br /> <br /> 1.1.61 Facility - Any institutional, commercial, public, industrial or <br /> residential structure, installation or building (including any <br /> structure, installation, or building containing condominiums or <br /> individual dwelling units operated as a residential cooperative, but <br /> excluding residential buildings have four or fewer dwelling units); <br /> any ship; and any active or inactive disposal site.
