Library Advisory Board
April 16, 2003

MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING OF THE LIBRARY
ADVISORY BOARD
April 16, 2003

The Paris Public Library Advisory Board met in regular session
Wednesday, April 16, 2003, at 4:00PM in the Library with Chairman
Nancee Salzman presiding. The following Board members were present:
Sarah Gambill, Peggy Guthrie, Vicki Terlap, John Howison, Joyce
Kennemer, Nancee Salzman, and Walter Williams. Also attending were
Betty Landon, Library Director and Callie Thompson, Friends President.
Kevin Gray and Anna Davis did not attend.

The minutes from March's meeting were approved..

Betty presented board members this month's budget report. Betty
reported that she is at 49.86% at the 6 month point of the fiscal year. New
tires were purchased for the library van. The Loanstar library money
appears as negative in the budget, but it is paid by a grant, so everything is
fine.

February stats included a report that we're a little under in total
circulation from last year, but we were open three fewer days and overall,
more books were checked out per day this year than last year. Book
circulation is up over video circulation. The library offers 149 DVDs
(currently), but they have been checked out 541 times in March!
Interestingly, there has been an increase in the circulation of military
books, especially among junior high aged young men and senior men.

The Children's Department had "outstanding" stats for March! They had
three young volunteers who logged three hours. Forty children came in
and told about a book they had read and received free circus tickets. At
Kids Safe Saturday, 1084 children and 941 adults stopped by the library
booth. A large number of kids came into the library for programs in
March; 295 kids and 80 adults participated. In Children's Outreach, 246
kids and 50 adults participated in programs. Emily and Linda attended a
workshop in Arlington with Caroline Feller Bauer presenting; they also
attended a Children's Resource Sharing program in Terrell. Due to a
