Library Advisory Board
April 16, 2003
Page 2
death in her family, Emily was not able to attend her Victorian Tea Party
Program at the Wise House; Linda and Rebecca presented the program to
26 young women. It was a huge success.

In adult outreach, there were 3 programs in which 63 attended. Rebecca
left materials including books, audio, and magazines this month.

Leigh Igo, library employee, was introduced to the board and told us about
her job responsibilities at the library. Leigh works the circulation desk in
the mornings, answers the phones and processes new books, videos, DVDs,
audios and CDs. In addition, she repairs books, installs security strips,
scans labels, does the library displays and is in charge of staff birthday
celebrations.

Callie Thompson, Friends president, reported that the luncheon will take
place on May 6th. Flyers went out on the 16th. Joy Davis will be the
featured speaker and will review the book, The Shadow of Wings, which is
a fact-based fiction book. She also reported that the Friends paid for the
magnets for National Library Week, and will finance the summer reading
program. In addition, they are purchasing a new button machine for the
Children's Department.

In the Director's Report, Betty discussed the NETLS meeting in Sherman.
She also reported that members of the library staff received a
demonstration of the Polaris automation system. The library received a
$1000 check from WalMart for literacy. The money will be used to
purchase books for adult new readers. Betty did a presentation to 46 ladies
at the Newcomers Club during National Library Week. She distributed
some of the library magnets to board members. A barbecue luncheon will
be held next week for the volunteers during National Volunteer Week.

The meeting was adjourned at 4:52 p.m. The next meeting will be held on
May 21 at 4 p.m. in the Gallery.

Vicki Terlap Date Approved
