Main Street Advisory Board
September 24, 2003
Page 2
Lindsey Harper and Linda Suarez are updating map of stores in
the downtown district which will be included in the brochure.
6. Discussion of Streetscape Project
Terry Townsend reported that The Streetscape Project is to begin
in January. Plans were approved and the project will be bid outin
November. Construction is to begin around January lst.
However, a citizen brought up the recommendation of having
audible pedestrian signals to ensure safety for disabled citizens in
the downtown area. If the recommendation is in fact passed, the
approved Streetscape layout could have to be revised.
7. Review Downtown Trash Pick-Up Solutions
Suzy Harper informed The Board of her conversation with
David Dunn regarding trash collection times. Suzy reported that
different stores currently pay different monthly rates. The Board
had no conclusive facts on the reasoning for the different rates.
Pike Burkhart, Sr. suggested that the trash be picked-up daily or
have a specific location with a locked dumpster where each store
could dispense of their own trash. Also, having their trash picked
up three days a week at a particular time was suggested. Lindsey
Harper agreed to talk with the downtown merchants and hear
their concerns and suggestions for the trash pick-ups.
8. Discussion of Christmas Decorations
Suzy Harper and Karen Wilkerson suggested hanging colored
Christmas balls in the trees on the square like the ones in Ft.
Worth. Karen offered to check on quantity and pricing so The
Board can get an idea of the cost. Terry suggested that they be
ordered after the next meeting in order to receive them in plenty
of time to decorate the plaza.
