Recruitment Profile City of Sherman City Manager Page 5 Required Education and Experience The successful candidate will hold a bachelor's degree in business or public administration, po- litical science or a related field, A graduate degree in business or public administration or a re- lated field is preferred. Four to five years services as a city manager, assistant/deputy city man- ager or the equivalent in a comparable or larger community is sought. Candidates with service as a City Manager, Assistant/Deputy City Manager in an equivalent or larger municipal organiza- tion, or service as a department head in a large, complex municipal organization will be consid- ered. Candidates with municipal management experience in other communities with challenges similar to those of Sherman may be considered on a case-by-case basis. The candidate's back- ground and experience should include a diverse exposure to all aspects of a full service city. :".'-~~ Pecan Grove Fire Station #3 The successful candidate will have a demon- strated track record in the development and maintenance of a strong customer service fo- cus in the delivery of municipal services. The Sherman City Manager should be ex- perienced in the management of and be technically grounded in all aspects of municipal operations. While strong technical competence is needed, the successful can- didate should be creative, articulate and focused on implementing City Council policies and directions for the community, ~~. Particular skill, expertise and experience in cost containment strategies and financial pol- icy alternatives for the governing body are essential, along with demonstrated experience with al- ternative, creative public financing strategies. He/she should posses a track record of success in economic and community development projects. Additionally, competence and experience in growth management, planning and development is sought, A strong and capable negotiator, he/she should be comfortable in protecting and advancing the City's interest in development and planning related negotiations, Personal Characteristics The City Council of Sherman is seeking a City Manager with: .
