.

The Community

The skies don't get any
bigger than this! From the

Big Horn Mountains to
some of America's most prized grass-

lands, Northeast Wyoming's landscape is
alive. The vigorous city of Gillette lies in

the heart of the nation's richest
coalfields, between two of the West's

most enchanting and historic mountain

ranges, on the path to the nation's
greatest parks and monuments. The City

invites you to visit their website at
www.ci.gillette.wy.us.

The railroad gave birth to G'¡lette more

than 11O years ago, even before Wyo-

ming was a state, opening new markets
to ranchers in the rich Powder River

Basin. But coal and oil booms in the
1970's transformed Gillette into the

"Energy Capital of the Nation." From it,
a youthful, industrious community of

22,000 people has emerged.

Coal production continues to playa

Gillette's and the County's local
economy. Ninety-four percent of coal

production in Wyoming originates with
Campbell County mines, and nationally,

approximately 1/3 of the nation's coal is
produced in Wyoming. Now, a new

boom is underway. Coal bed methane
gas, a clean-burning fuel produced in

rich coal seams, heralds a new era of
minerai development and progress.

Residents of Gillette are actively involved
in their community. Gillette is adorned

with summer flower gardens planted and
tended by community volunteers. The

County's labor force IS well educated
with many having secondary degrees

earned at the local campus of the
Northern Wyoming Community College.

Gillette offers a variety of outdoor fun
including a world-class aquatics center,

water slide, numerous neighborhood and
public parks, tennis courts, extensive

walking and biking trails, two excellent
golf courses, a well-stocked fishing lake,

and outstanding athletic programs.
Within one-half hour of Gillette,

Keyhole State Park provides over
14,000 acres of water sports.

Gillette boasts one of the finest

multi-use facilities in the region.
The CAM-PLEX features a fine

arts theater, convention/exhibit hall, two
multi-purpose pavilions, rodeo grounds,

covered stadium seating, a 21-acre park
and forested picnic area, and several RV

campgrounds.

The Organization
"Working Together for Excellence"
The mission of the City of Gillette is to

work in harmony with the community to
provide exceptional service and facilities

addressing the needs of a progressive
community now and in the future. The

City's vision is as an energetic and
dynamic community of 40,000 built high

',pon a heritage of ranching and rail. The
City's healthy economy is anchored in high

tech energy production. With its scenic
vistas, Gillette will strive to become the

regional center for a variety of activities
serving all of Northeast Wyoming. This will

include regional shopping, medical
services, transportation, cultural and

recreational activities, higher educational
opportunities, and tourism.

Working with other government entities
and the private sector, the City seeks to

Improve its family-oriented quality of life
by promoting reasonably priced service,

adequate housing, and preserving a
clean, attractive and friendly community.

The City strives to develop a favorable
