MINUTES <br />TRAFFIC COMMISSION <br />TUESDAY, MARCH 2,1999 <br />5:15 O'CLOCK P. M. <br />COUNCIL ROOM - CITY HALL <br />PARIS, TEXAS <br />The Traffic Commission met in regular session Tuesday, March 2, 1999 with the following <br />members present: <br />1. Edward Ellis <br />2. George Robinson <br />3. Cleo Holmes <br />4. Irene Foreman <br />5. Mary Lane <br />6. Kenneth Webb <br />7. Joel McCray <br />The city staff was represented by Assistant Police Chief James Barnett. <br />The meeting was called to order at 5:15 P.M. by Chairman George Robinson. <br />The Minutes of the January 5, 1999 meeting were approved as submitted. <br />Kenneth Webb came in. <br />The first item of consideration was a request for a Flashing Beacon at SW Loop 286 and <br />SW 19t' Street. Assistant Chief Barnett explained this request came from Kimberly Clark, <br />who has a plant in this area. He also explained that The Texas Department of <br />Transportation would need to do a study and approve this request and that this <br />recommendation, if approved, would include the steps necessary for the installation of the <br />flashing lights including a letter from the City Manager to TxDOT for the study. <br />After discussion of accidents at this location being few but deadly Mary Lane made a <br />motion that the request be approved. Joel McCray seconded and the motion passed 7 ayes <br />to 0 nays. <br />The last item for consideration was a request for TxDot to do a study to lower the Speed <br />Limits on Lamar Avenue and Bonham Streets. (US 82) Assistant Chief Barnett explained <br />that there was concern about the speed limits around Maribou Square, 3500 Blk. of Lamar <br />and the 4000 thru 4800 blocks of Bonham. <br />After discussion Kenneth Webb made a motion that the study be requested and the speed <br />limits be lowered where approved. Ed Ellis seconded and this motion carried 7 ayes to 0 <br />nays. <br />There being no further business the meeting adjourned at 5:28 P.M. <br />0104a ett <br />
