This request was sent to the
Commission by The City Council in the form of Resolution No. 97 -046.
Assistant Chief Barnett reported that the complaints at this location concerning traffic were
vehicles blocking the front of Super One Foods because they could not exit onto Lamar Avenue,
vehicles not being able to move East on Lamar Avenue due to backup from the traffic signal at
Lamar Avenue and Loop 286 and vehicles traveling West on Lamar blocking traffic as they
attempted to enter the shopping center at the East entrance to the shopping center from Lamar
Avenue.
Barnett went on to explain that Police Chief Karl Louis had talked with officials of the shopping
center and his recommendation was to make a Right Turn Only Lane of the East exit onto Lamar
Avenue from the shopping center.
Discussion was held as to making other changes to entrances and exits of the shopping center but
all other possibilities could or would lead to just moving the congestion from one drive to
another.
After dicussion Charles Thompson made a motion to make the East exit lane from Maribeau
Square Shopping Center onto Lamar Avenue a Right Turn Only Lane. Pamela Campbell
seconded and the motion carried 5 ayes to 0 nays with Commission members Kenneth Webb and
Emily White not being present yet.
