MINUTES <br />TRAFFIC COMMISSION <br />Tuesday, September 4, 1990 <br />5:15 o'clock P.M. <br />City Ha1:1: -. Annex <br />Paris, Texas <br />The Traffic Commission met in regular session Tuesday, September 4, 1990, <br />with the following members present: <br />1. <br />Richard Fuller <br />6. <br />Frank <br />Sherman <br />2. <br />Tom Kolko <br />7. <br />Gerald <br />Byas <br />3. <br />Judy Lutz <br />8. <br />Charlie <br />Thompson <br />4. <br />Ed Ellis <br />9. <br />Billy <br />Trenado <br />5. <br />David Gilbert <br />Ed Ellis was elected to preside <br />over the meeting <br />because Chairman Kolko <br />was not present. <br />The meeting was called to order at 5:20 P.M. <br />The minutes of the July 3, 1990 meeting were approved as submitted. <br />The first item considered was a request for a No Parking Zone on the <br />North side of East Austin Street from the East curbline of 3rd S.E., <br />East, 60 feet. <br />After discussion Charlie Thompson made a motion to establish the No <br />Parking Zone as requested. Richard Fuller seconded and the motion <br />carried 8 ayes to 0 nays.- <br />A request for a Speed Zone change was then considered from the South <br />curbline of E. Kaufman, South, to the North curbline of E. Sherman <br />Street on 3rd S.E. The speed limit is now 30 MPH in this area and <br />The First Baptist Church had requested a speed of 20 MPH due to their <br />day care facilities and the day care facilities at The Central Presby- <br />terian Church just South of them. <br />Discussion was held to <br />all the way to Sherman <br />schools down that far. <br />20 MPH Speed Zone from <br />to the North curbline <br />and the motion carried <br />the effect that there is no need to extend this <br />Street since there are no day care facilities or <br />David Gilbert then made a motion to allow the <br />the South curbline of E. Kaufman Street, South, <br />of E. Woodlawn Street. Charlie Thompson seconded <br />8 ayes to 0 nays. <br />Then a request for a reduction in Speed was considered on Old Jefferson <br />Road from the 600 block of New Jefferson Road (FM 1507), Easterly, <br />to the 1500 block of New Jefferson Road. The speed limit there is now <br />45 MPH and the request is to lower it to 30 MPH. <br />Assistant Police Chief James Barnett explained that this portion of the <br />street is no longer a part of the Farm to Market Road system and is now <br />maintained by the City of Paris because New Jefferson Road was built on <br />to eliminate this curved portion of the road. The only thing on this <br />part of the road now is a church and residences. Several residents had <br />made the request to lower the speed to make it a safer street. <br />Rar Fuller <br />After discussion ,a y- -t-z made a motion to allow the lower speed as <br />
