Gene Yes.
High What types of positions are we talking about.
Gene You are talking about clerical positions, maintenance workers type
positions for Public Works, you know, it could be anything from
water and sewer line repair to street repair, maintenance people at
the water and wastewater treatment plant, water plant operators,
wastewater plant operators, sanitation workers, traffic lighting.
Mike Health department workers.
Gene Yes, Health Department workers.
Mike Sometimes that includes nurses and any staff people in the
departments.
Gene Any clerical positions.
Mike Basically any employees that are not Civil Service, and Civil Service
employees are either policemen or firemen.
High Educational requirement, or specific job skills requirements. Do
you require all employees to have at least a high school diploma or
a GED.
Gene That has been our historic practice. We have modified that this past
year to say, high school diploma or GED, or equivalent experience
as determined by the city, because we would occasionally find
somebody that may have been a truck driver for 20 years, or
construction person for 20 years that did not have a high school
diploma or a GED, but they had skills that we were looking for and
a lot of experience.
Mike And the ability to read sufficiently. To read safety manuals.
Gene They can read and write. They just didn't graduate from school, so
we modified it to be able to consider those people.
