MARN STREET <br />PARIS, TEXAS 75460 <br />MINUTES <br />PARIS PUBLi:C LIBRARY ADVISORY BOARD MEETING <br />March 18, 1987 <br />The Paris Public Library Advisory Board met in regular session at 4 p.m. March <br />18, 1987 in the City Hall annex Conference Room with the Chairman, Mrs. Virginia Gibbs <br />presiding. Present were Rogene Patterson, Beth Shelton, Bill Hagood, Robert Pierson, <br />and Frances Ellis, Secretary. Absent were Reeves Hayter, Don Black and Jackie Also - <br />brook. Also present were Dick Boots of the City, Sue Smith of the Main Street Project, <br />Roslyn Sample, Librarian, and Tiana Williams, Director of Library Services. <br />Minutes of the February 18 meeting were approved as circulated. The Financial <br />report was distributed. <br />The three months report of book circulation showed 35,750 for the year, 3,205 <br />for non -book circulation; 12,535 attendance at the Library; 5,288 research efforts made; <br />a gain of 224 cardholders in February with a total of 20,070; 91 books added in Feb- <br />ruary and 176 deleted showing a total of 27,291 adult books on hand, with 13,517 child- <br />ren's books and a grand total of 40,808 books on the shelves; 1,219 audio cassettes <br />added, 38 VCR's added; and 236 film strips on hand. <br />Ms. Williams presented a tentative draft of the policy for the use of the Audi- <br />torium, which was discussed with varying opinions. This was delayed for further action <br />after members had a chance to study other policies of libraries that are of comparable <br />size population -wise. <br />Ms. Williams distributed copies of brochures from other libraries, saying the <br />new library facilities would need a new brochure printed and distributed. She will <br />ask the Friends of the Library and two library staff members to work on this publication. <br />She announced volunteers were needed to work on the micro - computer in the coming <br />weeks. She would also decide on extending the circulation period to a month for check- <br />ing out books, and doubling the limit to 12 books to lighten the load of moving the <br />books into the new Facility when available. <br />Robert Pierson asked about change of hours for the library when the new facility <br />is opened. Members discussed this. Working people are asking for more evening and <br />weekend hours. This would be discussed further before a decision is made. <br />Mr. Boots commented on the recent illness of Mrs. Sample's husband who is recover- <br />ing at home. <br />The meeting adjourned at 4:30 p.m. to tour the new facilities of the library <br />under the guidance of the Contractor, Tommy Griggs. <br />Date Approved: <br />Frances Ellis, Secretary <br />
