TEXAS 76460 <br />MINUTES <br />PARIS PUBLIC LIBRARY ADVISORY BOARD MEETING <br />June 17, 1987 <br />The Paris Public Library Advisory Board met in regular session at <br />4.p.m., June 17, 1987 at the City Hall Annex Conference Room with Chairman <br />Virginia Gibbs presiding. Present were Jackie Alsobrook, Reeves Hayter, <br />Robert Pierson, Don Black and Frances Ellis, Secretary. Bill Hagood, <br />Beth Shelton and Rogene Patterson were absent. Tiana Williams of the Library <br />staff, Dick Boots from the City of Paris, and Cathie Swaim of the Arts <br />Development Council also attended. <br />The minutes of the May 20th meeting were approved as circulated and <br />the financial report and circulation report were distributed. <br />Mrs. Swaim displayed the sketch of the mural which the Arts Development <br />Council has underwritten to be painted by artist Dr. John Biggers of Houston. <br />She discussed its meaning and said that it would be eight feet long by <br />forty -two inches high and will be placed above the shelving in the new Library <br />area. <br />Don Black and Reeves Hayter of the Library Advisory Board's Art Sub - <br />Committee discussed their opinion of the design. Don Black moved, based on <br />the Art Sub - Committee's recommendation, that the proposed sketch by Dr. <br />Biggers be accepted. The motion was seconded by Robert Pierson and passed. <br />Mrs. Gibbs stated that the Woodfin painting which had been offered to <br />the Library would not be given because Dr. Woodfin had decided to keep it. <br />Ms. Williams asked for input on the Art Acceptance Policy which must <br />soon be devised, and said she would take the suggestions of the Board that <br />the Art Sub - Committee seek consultants from art experts in Paris and the <br />surrounding areas when needed to make decisions on art offered to the Library. <br />She said she would work on the proposed policy for later presentation. <br />Robert Pierson said that insurance on art is not expensive. Dick Boots <br />reminded the Board that the two Culbertson portraits and other art work <br />at the Library are insured now. <br />In the Director's report Ms. Williams announced that Valle Stankus is <br />replacing Mrs. Helen Gies and will receive the salary of $5.04 an hour. <br />The Literary Auction went well with collections of about $2,500 to date and <br />she indicated that due to good publicity donations continue to arrive. <br />page 1 of 2 <br />a m <br />
