M I N U T E S <br />''*N <br />PARIS PUBLIC LIBRARY ADVISORY BOARD MEETING <br />Janury 20, 1988 <br />The Paris Public Library Advisory Board met in regular session on <br />January 20, 1988 at the Library with Chairman Bill Hagood presiding. Board <br />members present were Rogene Patterson, Jackie Alsobrook, Beth Shelton, Jean <br />Gibson, Eric Tate, Vice - Chairman Virginia Gibbs, and Secretary Frances Ellis. <br />Robert Pierson was absent. Dick Boots from the City of Paris and President <br />Sally Cecil of the Friends of the Library also attended along with Tiana <br />Williams and Pamela Sidnell from the Library. <br />The minutes of the December 16 meeting were approved as circulated. <br />Mrs. Shelton read the revised "Auditorium Use Policy ". After the addition <br />of the word "refundable" to the $25.00 clean -up deposit the policy was approved <br />as changed. A copy is attached to the Secretary's minutes. <br />Circulation figures for the first quarter of the 1987 -1988 fiscal year <br />were noted with a total of 20,305 books circulated and attendance of 7,186. <br />The Library's financial statement for December was distributed. <br />The four accounts of the Memorial Fund were studied and the Librarian <br />was asked to name Library needs for which the accounts' earned interest could <br />be used. The Chairman noted that the Advisory Board is responsible for <br />custody of the funds. Mrs. Ellis moved that three officers should be <br />authorized to sign for these accounts, with any two of the three signing <br />for disbursements. The motion was seconded and passed after discussion, and <br />the signature cards were then completed. <br />The Chairman said that two bills, $583.00 for the dedication invitations <br />and $980 for the Encyclopedia of Religion, could be paid from thes4 accounts. <br />Ms. Williams discussed the need for a long -range plan for the Library <br />with each board member placed on one of these commitees: <br />1) Activity <br />2) Automation <br />3) Assessment and setting goals for the Library <br />4) Public Relations <br />5) Finance <br />She reported that fourteen librarians attended the NETLS microcomputer <br />workshop on January 20th, and that an intellectual Freedom Workshop will be <br />held at the Library on March 25, 1988. <br />continued on page 2 <br />
