r <br />M I N U T E S <br />PARIS PUBLIC LIBRARY ADVISORY BOARD MEETING <br />May 18, 1988 <br />The Paris Public Library Advisory Board met in regular session on <br />May 18, 1988 in the Library auditorium, Chairman Bill Hagood presiding, and <br />with members Virginia Gibbs, Jackie Alsobrook, Jean Gibson, Rogene Patterson, <br />Robert Pierson, Eric Tate and Frances Ellis attending. Board member Beth <br />Shelton was absent, along with Dick Boots from the City of Paris. The Library's <br />Acting Director Roslyn Sample and Youth Librarian Pamela Sidnell and The <br />Friend's President Sally Cecil also attended. <br />The minutes of the April 20, 1988 meeting were approved as circulated. <br />The Cisneros sketches, rematted and framed by Welch's Art Center at a <br />cost of $703.50, were displayed by Mrs. Sample. Board members agreed that <br />they should hang in the adult area where the lighting would be good. The sketch <br />of Mr. A. W. Neville and ten or eleven of the sketches will be hung. Publicity <br />for the hanging of the sketches was discussed. <br />Members complimented the Paris Art Study Club and their in- coming <br />President Pauline Roberts on their auditorium art exhibit which will continue <br />through the summer. <br />Miss Sidnell reported that 60 children from four to thirteen have signed <br />up for the special programs to be held each Thursday from 2:30 to 3:30. The first <br />program will be held on June 2 and will feature an "outer space" costume parade. <br />A special program will be held for Bastille Days, five doctors will discuss science <br />in medicine on June 23, 1988, then. Dennis Lee will be at the June 25th program, <br />and the Herd Museum at McKinney will bring an exhibit on July 21st. <br />Circulation for the 1987 -1988 year to date was determined to be approximately <br />59,000 which is about 4,000 more than the same period of 1986 -1987. Two- thirds <br />of the items checked out are adult. <br />Mrs. Sample reported that the book sale netted approximately $400 and <br />that the volunteers who headed the sale, Marlene Baughtman and Robin Bobbit, <br />suggested that it be held in the fall to sell the text books. <br />She also reported that the Dial -a -Story continues to be popular, and <br />led a discussion on the problems of the Library serving as a baby sitter. She <br />noted that the children's department had been rearranged to help with this problem. <br />Chairman Hagood remarked that many civic organizations helped to pass the <br />bond issue and he suggested that a presentation or program should be organized <br />to show them the results of the successful issue. Eric Tate offered to include <br />library brochures in the Kimberly -Clark employee orientation packets. <br />- continued on page 2 - <br />
