MINUTES OF BOARD MEETING, PARIS PUBLIC LIBRUJff <br />January 20, 1976 <br />The Board of Directors for the Paris Public Library met in regular session <br />January 20, 1976, in the Library, with the Chairman, Ben Marable, presiding. Present <br />were Herschel McKinney, Felix Gibson, Dee Cunningham, Mrs. Frank McClure, Mrs. <br />Pri.ntis Ellis and F. D. Mallory. Board Members absent were Mrs. Marvin. Gibbs, Mrs. <br />Glynn Loge, Dr. C. M. Townsend, Robert Pierson and David Denney. Librarians, Mrs. <br />Baker and Mrs. Finch also attended. Harold Greene of the City was present. <br />Minutes of the December 16 meeting were read and corrected to show advertising <br />during December to promote giving memorials - books and magazine subscriptions to <br />the Library, would be paid for from the Memorial Fund. Paris News ads were $128.91 <br />and the Echo $52. <br />Mr. Greene discussed the December account showing deficit figures of $268.66 <br />in office supplies, $17156 in building and groins, and $2.50 for associations. <br />He explained the only flexible item in the budget is the books figure of $5,300, <br />but the total remaining balance for the year of $19,594.85 is as it should be on <br />this date. He said the income from the 2erox machine goes into the City General <br />Fund and is not counted into the Library Budget. Gibson moved approval, motion was <br />seconded, discussed and passed. <br />Mrs.Baker gave the 1975 Library statistics - 83,799 books circulated; 1826 <br />new members; 32,230 attendance, and 1826 persons helped with research. <br />The Chairman discussed Section B, Item, 6 of the newly adopted Bylaws showing <br />terms of 3 and 6 years for Board Members, and it was agreed this does not intend being <br />retroactive, and that Board members will draw for terms at the February 17 meeting. <br />Ir. Greene explained the new Age and Hour Law increase as of January 1 from $2.10 <br />to $2.20 per hour minimum wage would be effective for all city em�?loyees including <br />Library pages. The Budget is set up to take care of this, but he requested Budget <br />requests for 1976 -1977 be made by March 1. <br />In discussing the illness and absence of the new staff member, Mrs. Harold Gies, <br />Mr. Green explained after one year all city employees were eligible for 10 vacation <br />days;and 15 sick leave days accumulating to 60. Since Mrs. Gies had worked only one <br />month, she would be paid accordingly. Her salary is $275 a month. <br />Mallory reported for the Committee consisting of hire, Mrs. Gibbs, Pierson <br />and Cunningham that Mrs. Hope Waller, Librarian for the Sherman Public Library, <br />would make a total Library profile of the Paris Public Li.brary__according to the <br />"Interim Standards for Public Libraries," costing $500. Mrs. Allis moved the <br />Board adopt the Committee's recommendation for this, motion was seconded, discussdd <br />and passed. Money will come from the Memorial Fund to pay the $500. <br />The Chairman said Mr. and Mrs. Culbertson's portraits were to be on exhibit <br />in the ballroom at Paris Junior College during the Bicentennial luncheon when the <br />Governor of Texas, Dolph Briscoe, would dedicate the restoration of the DulbertHson <br />Fountain in downtown Paris, given to the city by the Culbertson in 1926 -27. e <br />requested the cleaning and care of paintings be delayed. Ile asked that members of <br />the Culbertson family attending the event be told of the work to enlarge the Childrents <br />Department which once housed the art given the Library by the Culbertsons and returned <br />to the family in later years. <br />`.E'he meeting adjourned at 11 a.m. <br />Mrs. PrintisEllis, Secretary <br />D`yte Approved <br />
