MINUTES OF BOARD MEETING, PARIS PUBLIC <br />May 18, 1976 <br />LIBRARY <br />The Board of Directors for the Paris Public Library met in <br />regular session, May 20, 1976, in the Library at 10 a.m. with <br />Ben Marable, Chariman, presiding. `'lmbers present were Mrs. Glynn <br />Lowe, Mrs. Marvin Gibbs, F. D. Mallory, David Denney, Robert <br />Pierson, Felix Gibson., and Mrs. Printis Ellis. Members absent <br />were Dr. C. M. Townsend, Mrs. Frank McClure, Dee Cunningham and <br />Herschel McKinney. Librarians, Mrs. Baker and Mrs. Finch and <br />Harold Greene of the City were also present. <br />Minutes of the April 20 meeting were read and approved, and <br />a copy of the letter to Mr. Robert Goolsby. Mallory moved approval <br />of the April Wilbor Memorial Fund report, motion seconded, discussed <br />and passed. Gibson moved approval of the City Budget report for <br />April, motion seconded, discussed and passed. Attention was called <br />to the $1,585.93 spent from the book fund, leaving $1-81 for remainder <br />of 1976. The Chairman announced a $500 check received from the Council <br />of Federated Study Clubs, $100 to be with held to purchase study <br />books for the members, and the remainder for the book fund. <br />Pierson reported a copy of "Channels for Change" had been given <br />City Manager Kerry Sweatt and the two recommendations for change. <br />Gibson said the annual meeting in July according to the Bylaws, would <br />be a good time for a dinner meeting inviting members of the City <br />Council and wives to learn about the Library before the report <br />was discussed with them. Mrs. Rope Waller would be asked to <br />discuss the study Stith Mr. Sweatt and Mr. Greene but hot before <br />the City Council. <br />After a report from the Personnel Committee which recommended <br />the extra help Valerie Sandlin who will work from June to September. <br />Vickie Pomroy will be given paid vacationaand health insurance <br />benefits as the other three staff members receive, Gibson moved the <br />report be accepted. Motion seconded, discussed and passed. <br />Mrs. Finch reported on the Paris Junior College Librarians' <br />Seminar during May which she and Mrs. Baker attended. A total of <br />98 librarians, both public and school, attended from Houston and <br />the surrounding Lamar County Area, as a result of a pilot project <br />frow -Ahe Texas State Library ServiMce providing $500. This was <br />considered in- service training. rs. Finch showed a copy of the <br />Denton Library brochure, indicating the need for a new one for the <br />Paris Public Library. <br />The Chairman said 4 chairs in the basement which had been <br />given the Library by a bank in Paris non - existent now, had been <br />given to be used in the renovated City Hall. <br />Mrs. Finch reported the beginning plans for "Follow The <br />Fifers" theme for children's summer reading program, and gave out <br />copies of the brochure and book mark, printed by Whitsell's for <br />$162. She said an article would be coming out in the Echo by Mrs. <br />Mercedes Gardener. She mentioned an article by_ Frances Knight in Rea <br />Reader's Journal which research came from the Children's Library <br />in Paris Public Library. <br />Mrs. Baker called attention to two new large books for the <br />Bicentennial - "We Americans" given to the Library, and "The American <br />Scene. ", as memorials. <br />
