Paris Public Library <br />Paris, Texas <br />POLICY ON FINES AND CHARGES FOR OVERDUE, LOST AND DAMAGED ITEMS <br />I. Rate <br />Fines will be charged on each item that is overdue at the rate <br />of $0.05 per day. Every calendar day will be charged for, <br />starting the day after the item is due acid ending the day the <br />item is returned. <br />If an-item is returned within three days after the end of <br />the lean period, this interim will be considered a, grace period, <br />and no fine will be charged. If the item is returned after the <br />third day, the fine will be charged starting the day after <br />the item was due. <br />From time to time, the Director may declare forgiveness days <br />on which materials may be returned without late charges. <br />II. Maximum fine <br />The maximum fine to be charged for one item will be $3.75= <br />After 75 days, the fine will continue to be $3.75• <br />III. Lost and damaged items <br />If an item borrowed is lost, the library will charge for the <br />lost item at the retail cost of replacement. <br />If an item is damaged, the library will assess the damage and <br />charge the cost of repair. If the item is beyond repair, the <br />cost will be assessed at the retail cost of replacement. <br />If a patron reports an item lost, the late charge will be assessed <br />only up to the day the item is reported lost, even should the <br />patron later find and return the item. <br />Charges for lost and damaged items are in addition to late charges. <br />IV. Effect on borrowing privileges of fines and charges <br />Patrons will continue to enjoy borrowing privileges while <br />owing up to $10.00 in late fines and charges for lost and <br />damaged items. <br />Once a patron owes $10.00 or more to the library, borrowing <br />privileges will be suspended until the patron pays the fine <br />in full. <br />
