MAIN STREET <br />PARIS, TEXAS '76460 <br />The Advisory Board for the Paris Public Library met in regular session, May <br />20, 1980 at the Library with the Vice- Chairman, Pat Bassano, presiding. Present <br />were Robert Pierson, A.M. Aikin, Mrs. Jackie Alsobrook, Mrs. Marvin Gibbs, Mrs. <br />Robert Thornburrow and'Mrs. Printis Ellis. John Hastings, Director, attended. <br />Absent were David Denney and Jerry Stephens. <br />Minutes of the April 22 meeting were approved as was the S.W. Wilbor Memor- <br />ial Fund report. <br />Board members voted unanimously to nominate Aikin, Mrs. Thornburrow and Rich- <br />ard Giles for Board membership, for the City Council June meeting,attention. <br />Hastings introduced Mrs. Melanie Golder as the new Children's Librarian. She <br />obtained her B.S. in Biology, M.S. in Botany; and a- Master of Library Science de- <br />gree from the University of Texas at Austin. <br />During the discussion on Policy on Memorial Gifts, Mrs. Margaret Baker spoke, <br />and the Committee with Mrs. Thornburrow, Chairman, reported they felt that while <br />any amount for a memorial gift would be welcomed, a minimum of $7 must be given to <br />purchase a memorial book with the donor's name inside and notes sent to the family <br />of the person memorialized. Members voted unanimously to accept the Committee's <br />recommendations, amended to state that a donation of any amount will be acknowledged. <br />Progress of the June 3 reception honoring Mrs. Lois Finch, retiring Children's <br />Librarian included mailing of over 200 invitations to the 5 to 8 p.m. event in the <br />Library, binding the letters sent for her, approving Mrs. Gibbs's selection and <br />wording of the silver tray from Staples, musical program by 4th Grade singers of <br />the "Jungle Book" musical at 5 p.m.; introduction of Mayor and City Manager to speak, <br />by David Denney with Denney presenting the tray and book of letters; and reception <br />table and refreshments being provided by members of the board. <br />Hastings said the Community Analysis copy would be sent by Paul Little so <br />the members could have a copy to study before the June 17 meeting. He said the <br />City Manager had called concerning the cuts in budget request by the Library: from <br />$162 to $150 for association dues, from $1600 to $500 for travel to meetings; book <br />fund from $20,000 to $16,000. Will try to begin now to work on increase of Child- <br />ren's Librarian salary from $8,352. Will be able to get new Card Catalog Cabinet, <br />revolving cassette holder, but no new mats for children to sit on during programs. <br />He invited members to view the improvements being made on the mezzanine. <br />Meeting adjourned at,5 p.m. <br />Mrs. Printis Ellis, Secretary <br />Approved: <br />
