PARIS PUBLIC LIBRARY ADVISORY BOARD <br />MINUTES <br />June 17, 1992 <br />The Paris Public Library Advisory Board met in regular <br />session, June 17, 1992, at 4 PM in the Gallery with <br />Chairman Bill Neely presiding and these members present: <br />Jackie Alsobrook, Jean Gibson, Virginia Gibbs, Bill <br />Hagood, Rogene Patterson, Beth Shelton, and Frances Ellis, <br />Secretary. Beverly Lewis, Library Director, and Thomas <br />Seay, NETLS Lay Representative, were present. No one from <br />the Friends attended. Joe Rex was absent. <br />Minutes of the May 20, 1992, meeting were approved as <br />circulated. <br />Ms. Lewis discussed the Budget, saying 61.34% had been <br />expended, a little under, but no problems existed. <br />The Statistical Report indicated 126,148 in circulation, <br />which is a 4.7% increase. May reference transactions <br />climbed to 3,094; Dial -A -Story calls rose to 2,920. The <br />evening circulation was down somewhat and averaged 85 per <br />open evening; however, no literacy classes met on <br />Thursdays. <br />Regarding accessions, 388 books were added, the majority <br />were adult; but June will be the month for juvenile books <br />to be added. There were 95 new videos - mostly travel and <br />juvenile titles. There were 56 memorials given. <br />The Chairman reported no news from the request for $500 <br />for the Artists' Recognition for the Thrashers, requested <br />from the Paris Area Arts Alliance, and he would check with <br />Susan Swint, Chairman, to have a report for the July <br />meeting. <br />Bill Neely and Jackie Alsobrook said they would continue <br />to explore the possibility of county funding. <br />Ms. Lewis reported successful summer reading programs, <br />with the first seven sessions attended by over <br />three - hundred children. There are seven junior <br />volunteers, age 12, helping. <br />Ms. Lewis reported on the successful author lecture by <br />Maurine Walpole Liles who wrote Rebecca of Blossom <br />Prairie. The author shared many interesting stories about <br />front er life with the large group attending. She dressed <br />in a prairie dress and bonnet. <br />
