PARIS PUBLIC LIBRARY <br />LIBRARY ADVISORY BOARD <br />Minutes, July 15, 1992 <br />The Paris Public Library Advisory Board met in regular <br />session, July 15, 1992, at 4 PM in the Gallery with <br />Chairman Bill Neely presiding and these members present: <br />Jackie Alsobrook, Virginia Gibbs, Jean Gibson, Bill <br />Hagood, Rogene Patterson, Joe Rex, and Frances Ellis, <br />Secretary. Beverly Lewis, Library Director, and Thomas <br />Seay, NETLS Lay Representative attended. Keitt Wood, <br />President of the Friends of the Library was present. <br />Absent was Beth Shelton. <br />Minutes of the June 17, 1992, meeting were approved as <br />circulated. <br />Ms. Lewis discussed the Budget, saying 74.99% had been <br />expended, which is close to what it should be at this <br />time; and the book budget was closely in line with <br />available funds. <br />The Statistical report indicated a total 146,112 <br />circulation to date, an increase of 4.5% above last year. <br />An average of 108 items were checked out during the June <br />evening hours. Over 400 large print titles circulated, <br />and this area of the collection has grown considerably <br />both in circulation and acquisitions recently. June <br />accessions included 317 juvenile fiction, 84 juvenile <br />non - fiction; and 299 adult titles. 242 new patrons were <br />added. The collection includes 56,970 books and 1,727 <br />videos. <br />Chairman Neely read a letter from the Paris Area Arts <br />Alliance, Susan Swint, President, indicating they were <br />granting $200 to assist with the exhibit and <br />reception /program honoring W.R. and J.W. Thrasher, local <br />artists nationally known for their landscapes and wildlife <br />paintings and prints. <br />Mrs. Ellis reported on a meeting which she and Neely <br />attended July 13 with the Thrashers at their studio when <br />the selection of the third weekend in January, 1993, was <br />tentatively set for the exhibit and honoring observance. <br />J.W. will study the Library gallery and hang the art work <br />in a manner similar to the Bywaters exhibit. They are <br />collecting the paintings and prints which will be valued <br />for insurance coverage, and security for the four days, <br />January 14 -18. They would update their publicity and the <br />publicity for the event should start in November. <br />
