PARIS PUBLIC LIBRARY ADVISORY BOARD <br />MINUTES <br />September 23, 1992 <br />The Paris Public Library Advisory Board met in regular <br />session, September 23, 1992, at 4 PM in the Gallery with <br />Vice - Chairman Beth Shelton presiding. These members <br />attended: Jackie Alsobrook, Jean Gibson, Bill Hagood, <br />Rogene Patterson, Joe Rex, and Frances Ellis, Secretary. <br />Absent were Virginia Gibbs and Chairman Bill Neely. <br />Beverly Lewis, Library Director, and Keitt Wood of the <br />Friends of the Library were present. <br />Minutes of the August 19, 1992, meeting were approved as <br />circulated. <br />Ms. Lewis discussed the Budget, noting the expenditures <br />were within the budget for the final part of the Fiscal <br />Year. In the Statistical Report, she said the slight <br />decrease in items circulated was due to the early start -up <br />of area schools since the juvenile fiction circulation was <br />down. However, the reference assistance increased to <br />3,393 which was due to school starting early and she said <br />some students were in the Library the day after school <br />began. She advised 443 new adult titles were added and 25 <br />audio books which are becoming more popular. There were <br />181 new card holders added in August. <br />Mrs. Ellis reported the Committee consisting of Jean <br />Gibson and Virginia Gibbs, along with Sallie Cecil of the <br />Paris Area Arts Alliance, had a meeting in the Thrasher <br />studio - gallery, September 22 at 1:30 PM. The discussion <br />with Mr. W. R. Thrasher and Mr. and Mrs. J. R. Thrasher <br />pinpointed some details of the January 14 -18, 1993, <br />exhibit with J. R. collecting and placing the paintings in <br />the Gallery, and an exhibit of publicity and other <br />Thrasher memoribilia in the historical case in the foyer. <br />J. R. offered a print to be a door prize. Mrs. Thrasher <br />will compile a list of their family members and friends <br />along with business art gallery associates for an <br />invitation to be sent frm the Committee; J. R. will place <br />the paintings on Thursday, and it will be open, especially <br />to school children, on Friday, Saturday, with a honoring <br />program and reception (Friends of the Library) at 2 PM <br />Sunday, January 17 in the Library, and again on Monday for <br />hours to be decided. The Northtex Investigative Services <br />will provide security for $8.75 an hour for the 72 hours, <br />and the value of the paintings will be insured under the <br />City's policy. The Paris Area Arts Alliance has budgeted <br />$200 for the event, and the Library Board $500. Other <br />expenses will include the approximate $100 for a plaque <br />for the Thrashers and the postage, invitations and <br />program. <br />
