PARIS PUBLIC LIBRARY ADVISORY BOARD <br />MINUTES <br />February 17, 1993 <br />The Paris Public Library Advisory Board met in regular session <br />February 17, 1993, at 4 PM in the Gallery with Bill Neely, <br />Chairman, presiding and these members present: Jackie Alsobrook, <br />Virginia Gibbs, Jean Gibson, Rogene Patterson, Joe Rex, and Frances <br />A. Ellis, Secretary. Absent were Bill Hagood and Beth Shelton. <br />Beverly Lewis, Library Director, Thomas Seay NETLS Lay <br />Representative; and Keitt Wood, Friends of the Library President <br />were present. <br />Minutes of the January 13, 1993 meeting were approved as <br />circulated. <br />Ms. Lewis reported the fiscal year expenditures were on schedule. <br />She said circulation was 2.7% below that of January 1992; however, <br />January was a usually slow month. She noted reference assistance <br />was higher with 9,374 assisted. <br />She advised there were 250 new accessions with 133 adult titles and <br />117 juvenile titles. No new videos were added. 178 items were <br />withdrawn from the collection. <br />Mrs. Ellis reported on the financial record for the January 14 -17 <br />exhibit in the Gallery of 16 oil paintings and other prints by W. <br />R. Thrasher and son, J. W. Thrasher. The total was $698.80 without <br />the insurance which had been added to the City's policy and would <br />not be known if there would be a cost or if it were just a rider. <br />A total of $800 had been given for the expenses with the Board <br />allocating $500, Paris Area Arts Alliance $200, and Chairman Neely <br />$100. OTher contributions were made through special services <br />rendered. <br />Nearly 1,000 visited the 2 1/2 day exhibit with hundreds of school <br />children on Friday and many were pleased to meet personally with <br />Mr. W. R Thrasher. <br />The Board selected Monday noon, March 1 for the annual recognition <br />luncheon honoring the 25 volunteers who work in the Library. Mrs. <br />Gibson moved the Grandy's restaurant cater the luncheon which was <br />$4 for the 1992 event. Motion seconded, debated, and passed. Ms. <br />Lewis will determine how long each member has worked as a volunteer <br />and certificates and leather -like bookmarks will be given. <br />
