PARIS PUBLIC LIBRARY ADVISORY BOARD <br />MINUTES <br />MARCH 24, 1993 <br />The Paris Public Library Advisory Board met in delayed meeting <br />March 24, 1993, at 4 PM in the Gallery with Beth Shelton, Vice <br />Chairman, presiding and these members present: Jackie Alsobrook, <br />Virginia Gibbs, Jean Gibson, Rogene Patterson, Joe Rex, and Frances <br />Ellis, Secretary. Absent were Bill Neely, Chairman, and Bill <br />Hagood. Beverly Lewis, Library Director; Keitt Wood, President of <br />the Friends of the Library, attended. <br />Minutes of the February 17 meeting were approved as corrected to <br />show Beth Shelton in attendance. <br />Ms. Lewis reported the fiscal year expenditures were on schedule, <br />circulation was down 4.5% from last year in part due to the <br />increase for the past four years after the new structure gave more <br />room. Reference assistance continued to rise, large print books <br />were more in demand, and more students were coming in Tuesday and <br />Thursday evenings for homework help. <br />Ms. Lewis reported 306 adult books, 44 juvenile and 44 videos were <br />accessioned in February. <br />Ms. Lewis and Mrs. Alsobrook discussed the county funding issue, <br />saying the committee should get together again, meet with the <br />Commissioners, City manager, and City officials, to help them <br />realize that 36% of the library users are from outside the city <br />limits. A statement should be devised giving the Library and City <br />stand on the matter, and if nothing else developed, the possibility <br />of a "user fee' should be considered. Help from the county would <br />enable the Library have help with automation funding. <br />Ms. Lewis said a committee from the Board would visit other <br />libraries to see how their automation system works. <br />Mrs. Wood reported on the March 29 book review lunchon at the Paris <br />Golf and Country Club when Gloria Hocking will return to review <br />"Letters of the Matchmaker ". Tickets are $15 and only a few <br />remain. <br />Mrs. Wood asked the Board to go see the new rug in the Children's <br />Department bought with the $500 contributed by Ridley Briggs of <br />NationsBank. The Paris News featured a front page color picture of <br />Briggs, Mrs. Wood and Ms. Lewis on March 23. <br />The Board voted to provide memorial books in memory of Bill Neely yIs <br />Mother and Mrs. Shelton's Mother. <br />
