PARIS PUBLIC LIBRARY ADVISORY BOARD
MINUTES
June 16, 1993
The Paris Public Library Advisory Board met in regular session,
June 16, 1993, at 4 PM in the Gallery with Vice Chairman Beth
Shelton presiding and these members present: Jackie Alsobrook,
Virginia Gibbs, Jean Gibson, Bill Hagood, Joe Rex, and Frances
Ellis, Secretary. Keitt Wood, Friends President, and Thomas Seay,
NETLS Lay Representative attended. Beverly Lewis, Library
Director, was present. Absent members included Rogene Patterson
and Bill Neely, Chairman.
Minutes of the May 19, 1993, meeting were approved as circulated.
The budget report was given by Ms. Lewis and indicated expenditures
were in line.
The statistical report showed a slight decrease in circulation from
May of last year. Evening circulation had increased, however, and
large print books and audio books continued to increase.
Only 200 accessions were made in May with 126 adult and 74 juvenile
titles added.
Ms. Lewis reported on the Summer Reading Program saying chapters
from the Wizard of Oz were being read each afternoon in the program
for the older kids, and classic stories were being read to the
younger children. During the first eight days, 140 attended. The
children who read books and tell library staff about them will
receive prizes at the end of the program. Mary Beth Burns of the
Friends of the Library is assisting with it.
Ms. Lewis reported that three major vendors of library automation
systems would be invited to visit, and Board members are encouraged
to be present during their demonstrations.
Mrs. Alsobrook reported on the visit with the County Commissioners
Monday, June 14, 1993, when all commissioners were present except
Allan Weatherford. Judge Loughmiller said the matter of requesting
two commissioners to serve on a committee to investigate county
funding for the Library would be considered when all could be
present. Others attending this meeting were Ms. Lewis who gave
statistics about the budget; Frances Ellis, Virginia Gibbs, Joe Rex
and Thomas Seay.
In new business, Ms. Lewis reported terms for Board members Mrs.
Ellis, Mrs. Gibson, and Mrs. Shelton had been extended by the City
Council for three more years.
