PARIS PUBLIC LIBRARY ADVISORY BOARD <br />July 21, 1993 <br />Minutes <br />The Paris Public Library Advisory Board met in regular session, <br />July 21, 1993, at 4 PM in the Gallery with Chairman Bill Neely <br />presiding and these members present: Jackie Alsobrook, Virginia <br />Gibbs, Jean Gibson, Bill Hagood, Beth Shelton, and Frances Ellis, <br />Secretary. Absent were Rogene Patterson, Joe Rex, and Thoams Seay. <br />Beverly Lewis, Library Director, was present. <br />Minutes of the June 16, 1993, meeting were approved as circulated. <br />Ms. Lewis gave the budget report saying expenditures were in line. <br />The circulation report showed an overall decrease in circulation <br />from June of last year; however, evening circulation increased <br />greatly, as did circulation of large print books. <br />Ms. Lewis said the Summer Reading Program involved more than 900 <br />kids to date and pointed out their art work on display in the <br />Gallery. The Library entered the July 4th Parade and five kids <br />marched carrying signs and flags. The older kids are following <br />chapters in The Wizard of Oz and participating in art activities <br />while the younger ones listen to classic stories in the children's <br />reading area. The program ends July 30 -31 with a family movie <br />night and a party. <br />Mrs. Alsobrook reported a committee was appointed to meet to <br />discuss the request for county funding: Rondie Williams, Millie <br />McDonald from City Council with Robert Pierson appointed; Gene <br />Buster, Troy Owens from County Commissioners with Sarah Gambill <br />appointed. Neely and Alsobrook are appointed from the Board with <br />Mrs. Alsobrook to moderate. A lunch meeting at the Library was <br />suggested. Ms. Lewis will attend as resource person. <br />Mrs. Gibbs announced officers nominated for 1993 -1994 are: Mrs. <br />Shelton, chairman; Joe Rex, vice chairman; and Mrs. Ellis, <br />secretary. They will assume office at the August 18 meeting. <br />Thomas Seay was re- elected Representative to NETLS with Mrs. <br />Alsobrook as alternate. <br />Ms. Lewis reported for Mrs. Keitt Wood of the Friends of the <br />Library, saying October 29 will be the fall book review with Laura <br />Yancey of Dallas doing "The Life of Beatrix Potter ". <br />Ms. Lewis said the Library applied for an "Project Even Start" <br />grant with PISD for family literacy programs. Pam Christian is the <br />PISD coordinator and advised notification should be sometime in <br />mid - August. <br />
