MINUTES <br />April 20, 1994 <br />The Paris Public Library Advisory Board met in regular session, April 20, 1994, in <br />the gallery with Chairman Beth Shelton presiding, and these members present: <br />Jackie Alsobrook, Jean Gibson, Virginia Gibbs, Rogene Patterson, and Frances A. <br />Ellis, Secretary. Absent were Bill Hagood, Bill Neely, and Joe Rex. Beverly <br />Lewis, Library Director; Tom Seay, NETLS Lay Representative; and Keitt Wood, <br />President of the Friends of the Library, were also present. <br />The Minutes of the March 9, 1994, meeting were approved as circulated. <br />The Budget Report, given by Ms. Lewis, indicated everything was in line for this <br />time in the fiscal year. The Statistical Report indicated an increase of 5.2% in <br />circulation and 99,280 items circulated for the year to date. Reference assistance <br />last month was 3,723; 25 children's programs were given with 326 attending. The <br />accessions included 700 items: 550 books, 85 videos and 65 audios. <br />Ms. Alsobrook reported for the County Funding Committee which would meet April <br />26 with representatives from the Commissioners Court and the City Council who <br />were expected to have their drafted versions of a contract. <br />Ms. Lewis discussed automation, saying the bid for the computer support equipment <br />had been awarded to a Paris firm and the bids for the main system would be opened <br />May 3. She explained retrospective conversion of the catalog which must be done <br />to create the electronic data base. The library staff will conduct an inventory and <br />bar code the collection during a period in May when the library will be closed to the <br />public. The Board voted to have Ms. Lewis select the retrospective conversion <br />vendor. <br />Ms. Lewis announced it is National Library Week and it is being observed with <br />special displays, school tours, and open houses yesterday and tomorrow. <br />Ms. Lewis announced the Library will have a booth at the Paris Art Fair, May 7, <br />and give out buttons which say "Kids Who Read Succeed ". Leo, the Library Lion, <br />will also make an appearance. <br />
