Ellis, Secretary. Keitt Wood, NETLS Lay
Representative, Friends of the Library President Kathie Gibbs, and Beverly Lewis,
Library Director were present. Joe Rex was absent.
Minutes of the August 10, 1994, meeting were approved with one correction: the
title of the October 17 program will be "Paris Is Out ".
Ms. Lewis said the City Council had not approved the Library Budget request yet
but that should be done in September. The City Manager had requested a 2.5% pay
increase for all city employees. She noted two line items were increased due to
projected increases: telephone and insurance.
She advised the Library should finish the fiscal year on target with expenditures.
She noted total circulation for the year to date was 179,735 which is a 2.2%
increase over the previous year. August was the biggest month with 16,782 items
checked out. The collection includes 66,415 books; 2786 videos and 2,616 audio
cassettes. There are 38,121 cardholders on the records. 250 books were added last
month.
Virginia Gibbs, Nominating Committee Chairman, reported the officers agreed to
serve another year: Beth Shelton, Chairman; Joe Rex, Vice Chairman, and Frances
A. Ellis, Secretary.
Ms. Lewis reported on the status of automation, saying the company had notified
that the last batch of cards were being processed and should be ready by December
1. She expected the hardware to be installed when the electric power was run into
the room in late September. The patron registration software will be installed on the
main hardware in late October and the staff will begin registering patrons in
November. The cards will be produced and laminated in the Library.
