PARIS PUBLIC LIBRARY ADVISORY BOARD
NOVEMBER 16, 1994
MINUTES
The Paris Public Library Advisory Board met in regular session Wednesday,
November 16, 1994, in the Gallery with Chairman Beth Shelton presiding and these
members present: Virginia Gibbs, Jean Gibson, Bill Hagood, Rogene Patterson, Joe
Rex, Keitt Wood, and Frances Ellis, Secretary. Beverly Lewis, Library Director,
and Kathie FOL President, were present. Absent was Jackie Alsobrook.
Minutes of the October 19, 1994, meeting were approved as circulated.
Ms. Lewis said the budget was into the first month of the new fiscal year and
running about the usual 8.8 %. The 18% data processing expenses are due to
automation and most of the technical processing expenses also. No major
automation invoices have been received yet.
She reported 250 books accessioned, with 221 adult titles and 29 children's books.
The 57 videos were mostly family types. 55 audio books were added, about half of
them fiction titles. Many orders are in the back room awaiting processing because
the staff is working on automation and some are being held until automation is
completed. She is weeding juvenile books and ordering better copies of classic
titles.
Ms. Lewis said the main computer is up and working fine in the back room, with the
modules for cataloging up and being utilized also. She said the San Antonio
company doing the retrospective conversion is slow and will not have the job
completed by December 15. The extra phone line has been ordered.
She explained they are working on the "profile" which gives all the information
about the Library and how it operates. There are 42 pages of questions with many
multiple parts. She said all materials are bar coded and the hand held scanners
working perfectly.
She regretted to announce that Faye Townsdin had resigned due to health problems.
