PARIS PUBLIC LIBRARY ADVISORY BOARD
APRIL 19, 1995
MINUTES
The Paris Public Library met in regular session Wednesday, April 19, 1995, in the
Gallery at 4 PM with Chair Beth Shelton presiding and these members present:
Jean Gibson, Bill Hagood, Rogene Patterson, Joe Rex, and Keitt Wood, Board
member and NETLS Lay Representative. Absent were Jackie Alsobrook and
Virginia Gibbs. Library Director Beverly Lewis also attended.
The March 22, 1995 Minutes were approved as distributed.
Ms. Lewis gave the Budget Report and advised that half -way through the fiscal
year, the department had expended 42.90% of the budget.
She advised the March circulation handout was only for the twelve days using the
old, manual system and four days using the new, automated system. The Library
was closed for seven days when the system was installed and training occurred.
The total March circulation was 14,910 which, when compared on a daily basis to
this month last year, was actually higher.
March accessions included the following: 135 adult books, 150 juvenile books, 50
videos, and 41 audio books.
Ms. Lewis advised the automated system is working and staff and patrons are
extremely pleased with it. Although there are several small changes to be made in
how the Public Access Catalog terminals function, the Galaxy system is very
efficient. The City Manager made a short video about the new system and showed
it to the City Council March 10.
The Volunteer Recognition luncheon was held March 10 and thirty attendees
enjoyed lunch, a short program, and then a demonstration of the new system
afterward.
-MORE-
