PARIS PUBLIC LIBRARY ADVISORY BOARD <br />NOVEMBER 15, 1995 <br />MINUTES <br />The Paris Public Library Advisory Board met in regular session Wednesday, <br />November 15, 1995, at 4 PM in the Library with Chairman Beth Shelton presiding and <br />these members present: Jackie Alsobrook, Jean Gibson, Rogene Patterson, Joe Rex, and <br />Frances Ellis, Secretary. Kathie Gibbs, Friends President, and Beverly Lewis, Library <br />Director attended. Absent were Toni Donnan, Virginia Gibbs and Keitt Wood. <br />The October 18, 1995 Minutes were approved as distributed. <br />The Budget Report for Fiscal Year 1994 -1995 was distributed and indicated the <br />Department stayed within its budget, expending 93.22% of the budgeted funds. <br />The Statistical Report for October, 1995, showed a 31% increase in circulation over the <br />same month last year. 21,713 items were checked out. <br />Ms. Lewis advised a special patron report indicated 8,399 registered borrowers as of <br />11/07/95. Of those, 4,696 reside within the City of Paris; 3,641 reside outside of the City; <br />and the others are unassigned. <br />During October, 1,160 items were added to the collection for a total of 63,228 items. <br />Ms. Lewis noted Gaylord has not yet provided an update for the Acquisitions Module; <br />however, the remainder of the system continues to work very well. <br />She advised all staff members now wear blue name badges so as to identify them to the <br />patrons which should be mutually beneficial as far as service is concerned. She also said <br />the "Infotrac" and "SIRS" CD -ROM reference products are up and operating and already <br />being frequently utilized. <br />National Children's Book Week includes daily after school programs, evening programs <br />Tuesday and Thursday; and a Saturday afternoon program. All include classic stories, <br />puppet shows and crafts. On Saturday, the Library staff will perform a play about books <br />titled "Bound for Discovery". <br />Ms. Lewis advised that three balloons which had been launched November 1 as part of the <br />National Family Literacy Day celebration were found in Arkansas, Missouri, and <br />Tennessee. Eleven families completed the reading pledge challenge and qualified for <br />discounts on books from Hastings. <br />
