PAGE 2 <br />NOVEMBER 15, 1995, LIBRARY ADVISORY BOARD MINUTES <br />The Board discussed the upcoming Amnesty Period and decided not to tie the collection <br />of canned goods for the needy directly to the return of overdue materials; rather, to <br />encourage people to donate food instead. <br />Upon motion by Jackie Alsobrook, second by Joe Rex, the Board voted not to increase <br />the overdue fine charge at this time; motion passed unanimously. <br />Ms. Lewis said that recently a person or persons unknown has /have damaged nineteen <br />books. The police have been advised and are conducting periodic "walk throughs ", and <br />the staff schedule has been changed to provide additional surveillance of the areas in the <br />front of the building. She is looking into the installation of a video surveillance system. <br />The staff will conduct a physical inventory soon if the required hardware and software will <br />be available; if not then sometime before April 1. <br />Kathie Gibbs noted the Friends fall luncheon was very successful and the money will be <br />used for the Children's Department as usual. Ms. Lewis said the Friends had been asked <br />to help staff the concession booth(s) at the July `96 Celebrate America festivities, and if <br />they did, they would receive part of the profits.
