PARIS PUBLIC LIBRARY ADVISORY BOARD <br />DECEMBER 20, 1995 <br />MINUTES <br />The Paris Public Library Advisory Board met in regular session Wednesday, <br />December 20, 1995, at 4 PM at the home of Secretary Frances Ellis with Chairman Beth <br />Shelton presiding and these members present: Jackie Alsobrook, Jean Gibson, Virginia <br />Gibbs, Joe Rex, Keitt Wood and Frances Ellis, Secretary. Kathie Gibbs, Friends <br />President, and Beverly Lewis, Library Director attended. Absent were Toni Donnan, and <br />Rogene Patterson. <br />The November 15, 1995 Minutes were approved as distributed. <br />The Budget Report for October, 1995, was distributed and indicated the Department was <br />within its budget for the first month of the new fiscal year. The November Budget Report <br />indicated the Department has expended 11.89% which was also well within budget. <br />The Statistical Report for November, 1995, showed a 23% increase in circulation over the <br />same month last year and 19,604 items were checked out. Both reserve requests and <br />inter - library loan requests increased. <br />In November, 805 items were added to the collection. <br />Ms. Lewis advised that the Amnesty Holiday was popular and several long overdue items <br />had already been returned. The collection of canned goods for the needy was also <br />growing daily. <br />She said no new incidents of damaged books have been reported; however, the staff is still <br />concerned about the matter and stays observant. <br />The staff will conduct a physical inventory the week of January 8 - 12 and the Library will <br />be closed. January 13 the Library will also be closed to observe the Martin Luther King, <br />Jr. holiday. <br />Three successful holiday children's programs were held this month with more than 125 <br />attendees. Also, the Children's Library provided programs to four kindergarten classes. <br />"Billy" the robotic book is still in the design stage; however, it should be here in time to <br />appear at the Art Fair in May. <br />
