Dr. Ratcliffe provided a copy of a 1985 interview
with Mr. Bywaters where he discussed the murals, advising the first
one was of John Chism, Paris cattleman, who was buried on West
Washington; the second was of David Crockett, early Texas pioneer
who came through Paris; the third was of fighting the March 21,
1916 Paris fire; and the fourth was to feature the dedicated people
of Paris who worked to rebuild the city. Mr. Bywaters was paid $425
by the Federal Public Works Art Project for the four oil on canvas
murals.
Appropriately inscribed plaques will be made and the Board and
the Friends of the Library will plan a special event for the
re- dedication of the murals and to honor the artist and his family.
Mrs. Campbell noted the Summer Activities Program would begin
June 3 with a Perfect Pet Parade in Bywaters Park and registration
in the Library for the Summer Reading Club.
