Mrs. Alsobrook requested the Board members start thinking about
someone else to serve as the NETLS Lay Representative because she
has served for ten years. Also, this past year, because of illness
and career responsibilities, she was unable to attend three of the
four NETLS meetings. She noted it is important, too, that a
reliable alternate representative be selected to attend when
necessary. The amount of State funding for the Library depends, to
a small percentage, upon attendance at the meetings.
Board members also discussed inviting NETLS to hold a meeting or
workshop in this Library.
Mrs. Gibbs moved a memorial be given by the Board for a former
member, Colonel James Lynch, who died June 12, and that the Director
make an appropriate slection using funds from the Endowment Fund.
Motion seconded and passed.
Chairman Hagood approinted Mrs. Ellis and Mrs. Gibbs to serve as a
Nominating Committee to report back at the July 19 meeting.
Mrs. Campbell discussed the importance of an updated Materials
Selection Policy and the Request for Reconsideration of Materials
Policy and form. She presented them, copies of which are attached,
and explained they closely follow those recommended by A.L.A. and
T.L.A. She reviewed the critical portions of each for the Board.
Mrs. Alsobrook moved the Board approve the Policies and form.
Motion seconded, discussed, and passed.
Mrs. Campbell reported the Summer Reading Club program is
successfully under way. More than 250 are registered and 20 have
already achieved their Club goals.
She called attention to the new seat under the oak tree in front of
the Library. It was custom built by a local contractor with brick
that matches those used in the main entrance sign. It cost $770 and
the left -over bricks are stored in the Library's basement.
She advised the Texas Reference titles are now intershelved with the
adult Reference collection which will facilitate research for both
patrons and staff.
A new Readers Advisory Service includes shelving "Staff Favorites"
in a specially designed display area adjacent to the new fiction
titles. Each staff member will be responsible for stocking those
shelves for two weeks on a rotating basis. Patrons have already
expressed interest in what the staff recommends!
The meeting adjourned at 5:15 P.M.
Da Approved Frances Ellis, Secretary
