MINUTES
PARIS PUBLIC LIBRARY ADVISORY BOARD MEETING
Wednesday, August 23, 1989
The Paris Public Library Advisory Board met in regular session
August 23, 1989, at 4:00 P.M. in the Library Gallery with
Chairman Bill Hagood presiding. Members present were Jean
Gibson, Rogene Patterson, Beth Shelton and Eric Tate. Library
Director Beverly Lewis Campbell and Friends of the Library
President Claire Haslam also attended. Gene Anderson, City
Finance Director, attended part of the meeting. Absent were
Board memebers Jackie Alsobrook, Frances Ellis, Virginia Gibbs
and William Neely.
Minutes of the July 19, 1989, meeting were approved as
circulated.
Mrs. Campbell presented the Budget Report, stating that at
83.33% into this fiscal year, the Library had expended 76.44%
of its funds. To date, a sum of approximately $45,000 has been
committed to collection materials.
Statistically, there was a 4% decrease in circulation from July
of last year, probably due to vacations and the different
incentive program for the children's Summer Reading Club.
However, the year -to -date circulation is still 11% ahead of
last year.
July was not a big month for receiving materials. The
accession lists noted 41 adult fiction titles, 221 adult
non - fiction, 28 juvenile fiction, 10 juvenile non - fiction and 9
videos.
City Finance Director Gene Anderson gave an update on the
Library trust funds. See attachment 1. The Board requested he
transfer the interest earned from the CDs to the money market
account to be used for purchase of materials and reinvest the
face amount of the three CDs at maturity in September for a
period of one year. Also, he noted that new signature cards
must be signed on all Library accounts.
Regarding memorial gifts, Chairman Hagood suggested we try to
get more publicity in The Paris News - perhaps a picture -
about donations and bequeaths.
Mrs. Campbell reported that bids had been taken for the
detection system. She recommended to the City Council that the
Knogo North America system be purchased at a cost of $10,780
plus $200 shipping.
Regarding the City, the Board requested the Finance Director
provide an accounting of expenses for the Library expansion and
renovation (bond money) and the balance so we can make future
plans accordingly.
