A two - volume set in a special case, Bird Life of Texas by Harry <br />Oberhouser, has been purchased as the memorial for Col. James <br />Lynch, former Board member. The cost is $125 and it will be a <br />reference title. <br />Mrs. Campbell advised she received a letter from Dr. Sam <br />Ratcliffe, Curator for the Jerry Bywaters Collection on Art of <br />the Southwest, SMU, noting they had determined titles for the <br />four panels: (1) Davy Crockett, (2) John Chisum, (3) Paris <br />Fire, 1916, and (4) Reconstruction. He suggested Skipper <br />Steely as knowledgeable to write a description for each <br />commemorative plaque. <br />She asked for a committee to work on organizing the <br />re- dedication event and exhibit of Bywaters paintings. Mrs. <br />Gibbs, Mrs. Gibson, Mrs. Campbell and Mr. Steely will serve on <br />the committee with Mrs. Ellis as chairperson. <br />Mrs. Haslam advised she had received a letter from the Internal <br />Revenue Service regarding the Friend's status. She and the <br />Chairman will review the matter. Also, she noted plans were <br />underway for a musical books review but the date and individual <br />have not yet been selected. <br />The Library Youth Department participated in the Bastille Day <br />celebration with a display of special books, art projects, and <br />face painting for 33 children. <br />The Northeast Texas Heritage Festival, to be held August 10 -12 <br />at PJC, has a special promotion display at the Library <br />featuring books, clothing and tools. Also, books related to <br />our cultural heritage and customs have been grouped to serve as <br />temporary reference sources. <br />Mrs. Campbell and Ms. Sidnell, Youth Librarian, attended the <br />American Library Association's Annual Conference in Dallas <br />recently and their conference reports were distributed to Board <br />members. Mrs. Campbell noted the critical issue of access to <br />information was discussed at many seminars and workshops. Also <br />of interest was the increased attention to the video format. <br />Mrs. Campbell said August 23 would be a better date for the <br />next Board meeting because of the end of the summer reading <br />club activities during the third week of the month and the 23rd <br />was scheduled.
