<br />Public Library's .Advisory Board met August 41 1989 at 10 a.^. in the
<br />Gallery with Frances Ellis, Chairman presid ing and these members
<br />present: Virginia Gibbs, Skipper Steely and Beverly Lewis Campbell
<br />of the Library Staff, with Sallie Cecil-,, representing the F--ends of
<br />the Library.
<br />Members discussed the purpose: TO PLAN THE RE- DEDI :ATI;0N OF THE
<br />FOUR PANELS IN THE LIBRARY BY ARTIST JERRY BYWATERS, PARIS !ATIVE.
<br />TO RECOGNI' E HIM AS AN OUTST +.LADING ARTIST WHO R ACHED .A PEAK OF
<br />ACHIEVEMENT BY PROMOTING ART AND ARTISTS OF THE SOUTHWEST. TO ORGANIZE
<br />OTHER SPECIAL EVENTS INCLUDING A RECEPTION HONORING HIS FiI =Y.
<br />Steely discussed his research of the Bywaters far -ily saying they
<br />care to t ^e area as ear1J as 1850• Each member selected sc*�e o_erson

<br />ask - Gilbert Cecil; and Steely and Mrs. Ellis will do more research.
<br />His Son, Dr. Richard Bywaters lives at 3525 Greenbrier, Dallas ^5225,
<br />and hid daughter, Jerry Bywaters Corhran also lives in Dallas.
<br />Members discussed the week of November 12 to be "Je,iry Bywaters
<br />Week in Paris and Lamar County," with the re- dedication of the four
<br />panels in the Library on the evening of November 12, follo.,ed by a
<br />reception for which invitations will be mailed, and perhaps a dinner
<br />or supper for the Bywaters family.
<br />Dr. Sam Ratcliffe Curator for the Jerry Bywaters Collection on
<br />Art of the Southwest, ,J00 Fondren Ea- t, SMU, Dallas 7527501'5 has been
<br />corresponding with Mrs. Lewis c ncernin g the titles and wording for the
<br />panels in the Library. Members decided a conference with him at SMU
<br />would be profitable and plans were made to go as a committee to see
<br />him if possible on August 30, leaving at 8 to be there -bolt 10, take
<br />,n1m pictures of the gallery and its dimensions.
<br />Mrs. Cecil would present the plans to the Friends of the Library
<br />Board to see if possible for them to host the reception and pr�vide
<br />docents for the exhibit in the gallery dL:ring the weak. The aris Art
<br />S,.udy Club would be ast;ed to provide volunteers; the Chamber of Commerce
<br />Art Alliance promotion through pamph lets and on calendars: Art galleries
<br />flyers and promotion; Paris Council of Garden Clubs decorations for the
<br />reception; Y.:- I.C.A. and other groups. Mrs. Lewis will work with the
<br />city on a proclamation. County, too.

<br />outlets.
<br />The meeting adjourned at 11:30 to meet again September 8.
