� • f <br />MINUTES <br />PARIS PUBLIC LIBRARY ADVISORY BOARD MEETING <br />October 18, 1989 <br />The Paris Public Library Advisory Board met in regular session <br />October 18, 1989, at 4 P.M. in the Library Gallery with <br />Chairman Bill Hagood presiding. Members present were Jackie <br />Alsobrook, Virginia Gibbs, Jean Gibson, Rogene Patterson, Beth <br />Shelton, William Neely and Frances Ellis, Secretary. Eric Tate <br />was absent. Library Director Beverly Lewis Campbell was <br />present. Claire Haslam, President of the Friends of the <br />Library, was not present. <br />The September 20, 1989, Minutes were approved as circulated. <br />Mrs. Campbell said the Budget Report was not ready from the <br />City Finance Director but would be presented at the November <br />meeting. In her statistical report she noted that there was an <br />11.57% increase in total circulation over 1988. <br />The accessions included: 55 adult fiction, 188 adult <br />non - fiction, 59 juvenile fiction, and 48 juvenile non - fiction. <br />No AV materials were accessioned. <br />Mrs. Campbell discussed the NETLS Lay Representative needed by <br />the Library and asked Board members to offer recommendations. <br />She advised the Assurance System panels were installed Tuesday <br />and the Library would be closed until 1 PM Friday (from 1 PM <br />this afternoon) while the staff and five volunteers inserted <br />magnetic strips in the books. <br />She advised the 1989 -90 Budget included $64,700 for materials <br />and the overall department budget is $343,520. One full time <br />employee and one half -time employee were added. New accounts <br />were established for programs, plant service and smocks for <br />staff members. <br />The upcoming, updated Periodicals Policy will allow the <br />circulation of those periodicals which are received on <br />microfiche after the fiche are received. <br />Mrs. Campbell noted circulation of large print books has <br />increased and a recent four -month average was 245 per month. <br />The patron record update project continues. <br />Biographies have been relocated to the old front of the <br />building where there is more shelf space and better light. <br />Back issues of periodicals are now located along the north wall <br />of the new wing. <br />The Jerry Bywaters Rededication Committee will meet October 24 <br />at 10 AM in the Gallery. <br />
