Mrs. Ellis reported on the Bywaters Committee's trip to
Dallas August 30. Mrs. Gibbs provided the van, Skipper
Steely drove, and the others going were Mrs. Campbell,
Mrs. Gibson and Mrs. Ellis. They spent two hours with Dr.
Sam Ratcliffe, Curator for the Jerry Bywaters Collection
on the Art of the Southwest at SMU. Dr. Richard Bywaters,
the artist's son who is a consulting engineer, also
participated in the meeting. It was agreed the Library
committee would be responsible for securing insurance and
security. Dr. Bywaters will visit the Library in October
and advised he and his sister should be able to provide as
many as thirty paintings for the rededication and exhibit.
The plan is to have a luncheon reception on Sunday,
February 25 and the re- dedication of the four murals later
that afternoon.
Mrs. Campbell explained the Appreciation Ad which ran in
The Paris News listed the 15 sponsors of the Summer
Reading Club activities because the newspaper deleted the
appreciation statement from her column.
Members voted to increase the Memorial Program minimum
requirement for a bookplate to $15.
The new watercolor limited edition print by Marvin Gorley,
"The Courthouse" was shown to Board members. It will be
hung near the circulation desk. Mrs. Campbell noted that
patrons have commented favorably about scenes of local
interest done by local artists. Earlier in the year,
Margaret Springer gave the Library the painting "The Gift"
which is of the Plaza Fountain.
Mrs. Campbell reported the American National Bank today
donated eight handsome, "coffee table type" Americana
subject books, to the Library's collection. They will be
accessioned and the books ready to circulate by Tuesday.
------------------------ - =` =Cs Z, 6ze&-------- - - - - --
Date Frances Ellis, Secretary
