MINUTES
PARIS PUBLIC LIBRARY ADVISORY BOARD MEETING
November 15, 1989
The Paris Public Library Advisory Board met in regular session,
Wednesday, November 15, 1989, at 4 P.M. in the Gallery with
Chairman Bill Hagood presiding. Members present were Jackie
Alsobrook, Virginia Gibbs, Jean Gibson, Rogene Patterson, Beth
Shelton, Eric Tate and Frances Ellis, Secretary. William
Neely, Vice - Chairman, was absent. Library Director Beverly
Lewis Campbell was present and Claire Haslam, President of the
Friends of the Library also attended. Mrs. William (Martha)
Bone was a guest for the first item of business.
The Chairman invited Mrs. Bone to speak and she expressed
appreciateion to the Advisory Board members for their work for
the Library. She said her concern about the replacement of
paperback books was taken care of after speaking to the Library
Director. She asked a question about the item in the budget
relating to "cleaning and Laundry" for $600 and Mrs. Campbell
explained all City departments were responsible for their own
cleaning and /or laundry supplies.
Minutes of the October 18 meeting were approved as circulated.
Mrs. Campbell discussed the September and October budget
reports noting the total amount spent was under budget and the
remainer was returned to the City's General Revenue fund. She
said it should soon be possible to establish norms for building
operating costs and that the Energy Management System was
making a savings.
She explained the October status report, reminding the Board
the Library had been closed two days for the collection
protection system installation.
The accession lists noted the following: 195 juvenile fiction
titles added; 54 adult fiction; 119 adult non - fiction, and 32
juvenile non - fiction. She noted the weeding of books in poor
physical condition continues.
Frances Ellis, Virginia Gibbs, Jean Gibson, and Mrs. Campbell
reported on the November 14 meeting of the Bywaters Special
Event Committee. The date for the rededication of the four
panels by Jerry Bywaters will be February 25, 1990. His son,
Dr. Richard Bywaters selected about 30 original paintings to be
displayed for two weeks in the Gallery. This will require
round - the -clock security and insurance. The insurance premium
can be incorporated into the City's policy. The Committee
asked the Board to consider helping finance some of the
expenses which would include about $4,000 for security and
other amounts for printing of the program and mailing it.
Claire Haslam and the Friends will provide Docents and will
host the luncheon for the Bywaters family and special guests.
