MINUTES <br />PARIS PUBLIC LIBRARY ADVISORY BOARD MEETING <br />December 20, 1989 <br />The Paris Public Library Advisory Board met for a Christmas <br />meeting at the home of Board Member, Mrs. Virginia Gibbs <br />Wednesday, December 20, 1989, at 4 P.M. with Chairman, Bill <br />Hagood presiding. Members present were Jackie Alsobrook, Jean <br />Gibson, Bill Neely, Eric Tate, and Frances Ellis, Secretary. <br />Absent were Rogene Patterson, Beth Shelton and Friends' <br />President, Claire Haslam. Library Director Beverly Lewis <br />Campbell; Mike Malone, City Manager, and Gene Anderson, Finance <br />Director were present. Mrs. Bill Hagood was a visitor. <br />Minutes of the November 15 meeting were approved as <br />distributed. <br />The November Budget Report was discussed by Mrs. Cambell who <br />noted the 32% to date expenditures in the supplies account was <br />due to ordering a large amount of clerical supplies in advance <br />to obtain larger discounts. She also advised the wearing <br />apparel item was the smocks with library logo on the pockets <br />for staff members to wear in the library. <br />She noted the statistical report showed a 5.5% increase in <br />circulation to date over the previous year. <br />The seven open Tuesday and Thursday evenings in November were <br />successful with 468 items circulated and 69 students provided <br />reference assistance. <br />Last month's accessions included 156 <br />adult fiction, 130 juvenile fiction, <br />titles. The McGruff's Drug Preventi <br />Program which includes cassettes and <br />grades K -7 was a special donation by <br />Telephone Pioneers of America. <br />adult nonfiction, 106 <br />and 33 juvenile nonfiction <br />on and CHild Protection <br />books for children in <br />the North Star Club <br />The Holiday Grace Period has already resulted in the return of <br />one important reference book and a videocassett overdue for <br />more than a year, among numerous other items. <br />Mrs. Campbell advised the new collection protection system was <br />working very well and the most frequent alarms happened when <br />children went to the drinking fountain before they checked out <br />their books. <br />She invited the members to visit the Library to see the holiday <br />decorations including poinsettia plants and a tree provided by <br />K -Mart. The natural pine wreath was purchased from the PHS <br />Junior Class. <br />
