MINUTES PARIS PUBLIC LIBRARY ADVISORY BOARD April 18, 1990 The Paris Public Library Advisory Board met in regular session, April 18, 1990, at 4 P.M. in the Gallery with Vice - Chairman Bill Neely presiding. Members present were: Jackie Alsobrook, Virginia Gibbs, Jean Gibson, Rogene Patterson, Beth Shelton, Eric Tate and Frances Ellis, Secretary. Beverly Lewis Campbell, Library Director, attended. Absent were Bill Hagood and Friends' President, Claire Haslam. Minutes of the March 21 meeting were approved as corrected. The Director discussed the City Budget Report, advising work on a heating unit was costly and increased expenditures for that maintenance account. She said City Manager, Mike Malone, was aware of several roof leaks. She explained the City's "Stability Pay" was for longevity of service and usually given employees at Christmas. The Director called attention to a total circulation of 15,656 in March with a quarterly circulation of 67,623 - both figures higher than for those of last year. During the nine March evening hours, 864 items were circulated. Reference requests have increased. There were 83 memorials. In discussing the accessions, the Director noted the Story Book House juvenile titles have been processed which make up a large portion of the 270 fiction and 232 non - fiction new juvenile titles. 125 adult non - fiction and 98 adult fiction titles were added. 100 videos were added and in the future all videos will be shelved according to their classification. Library art works and their values have been listed with the City Finance Director for insurance purposes. The Director noted the Bywaters painting "In The Public Library" had been hung in the entrance with the two panels about the Paris fire on either side. The John Chisum and Davie Crocket panels are in the children's area. She showed the Board the City Council Resolution No. 90 -034 accepting the Bywaters painting, which includes a statement that it may be borrowed by the Bywaters family. The bronze identification plaque has been placed under the Bywaters painting and the Director, Beth Shelton, and Chairman Hagood are working on wording for the Culbertson portraits' plaques. There was no report from the Friends of the Library.
